Compart - Document- and Output-Management

Comparting 2006

Review:
Where Needs are Met

The series of presentations (all held in German) covering topical subjects on document and output management during this year's Comparting Technology Forum 2006 attracted more than 90 attendees. This annual forum held this year for the second time on the 5th and 6th of October is well on the way to becoming an established event for users and suppliers in this specialized field.

Again this year as part of the two day program the forum addressed subjects which current affect the field and which seemed to hit a nerve with the attendees. This included technology presentations on the ISO long-term archiving standard - PDF/A (Olaf Drümmer, callas Software GmbH), electronic signature (Oliver Berndt, B&L Management Consulting), and the differences between various print protocols (Dr. Gernot Haager, LRS).

It was in this context that the latest developments at Compart were also presented and many frequently asked questions raised concerning the factors and requirements which influence the performance of conversion processes. Bernd Gottwald (Outrange Systems GmbH) presented new possibilities of process automation in output management with docas[control], a product that has been available for the past few months.

Two highlights during the forum were the presentations on fundamentals: Manfred Wiedemer, a board member at Oce Printing Systems responsible for technology and key components gave a glimpse of the current status and future prospects of laser technology with his presentation "Print Technology - The Art of Bringing Information to Print" and Dr. Uwe Bertholdt from fogra Forschungsgesellschaft Druck (an Research Institute for Printing) gave a very informative presentation on the scientific background to color quality and measurement.

The user scenarios catered for the more practical section of the forum: Marco Dönni from ZRWest presented the central conversion service of the Deutschen Rentenversicherung (German Retirement Insurance), while Martin Brülls from Siemens Business Services, as part of a successful comprehensive DocBridge pilot implementation, gave an overview about postage optimization, and Bernd Rendenbach (Xerox) discussed a combined project at Filiadata on the subject of "Single Point of Printing Control".

Feedback after the event revealed another focus point which appears to be very important to almost al attendees: Apart from the featured further education focused presentations all attendees very much valued the opportunities to network. Especially the evening event in somewhat unusual relaxed atmosphere of a garden center, providing much room for communication. The next Comparting in 2007 will be on the 13th and 14th of September.
