Archiving

In the context of DMS, the term "archiving" means the long-term safekeeping of electronic objects (scanned documents, office documents, host data, printing data, and any other, archive-worthy objects). The main requirement is the protection of the archived objects from change and/or manipulation. Hence, archive systems feature special protective mechanisms not included in filing systems (e.g. overwrite protection and globally unique object IDs, sometimes in combination with separate time stamps etc.).
