Compart - Document- and Output-Management

Compart feels like home to me.

Omil, Software Developer

Two years ago, you moved from Russia to Böblingen, to start your career at Compart. What motivated you to make this step? Why did you choose Compart?

The main motivation behind moving was to work in a more diverse and open environment. This is always challenging, but it is a great experience.  After some research and comparisons, I decided to move to Germany. I chose Böblingen, because it perfectly matches my expectations, in terms of location, climate, personal and professional opportunities. Compart is a very open and employee-oriented company. Compart values the employee and creates very good conditions. It provides a great work-life balance and continuous improvement opportunities for its employees. People from many countries work here, which makes the culture very diverse. It is never boring. After the on-site interview at Compart, I liked the company and its values. After I put together the culture, values and other attractive benefits that Compart provides, I accepted the job offer without doubts. In the meantime Compart feels like home to me.

How did you experience your first months here?

The first months in Germany were not easy. A new company, new projects, new team, new country, new culture. It takes time to adapt. Furthermore, it was hard to find an apartment to rent. Compart supported me in my search for an apartment and also helped me to phone the Immigration Office. And in the end, everything went well and smoothly. My superior and team members helped me to adapt to the team as soon as possible when I couldn’t do it myself because of language. It was very easy to contact people; my boss was always available to me. Now I understand the language and I am able to express myself. I understand the way things work here, and the culture.

What inspires you about your job as a software developer at Compart?

What inspires me most is developing and designing complex systems using the latest technologies, and always learning something during the process. It always inspires and motivates me, to work on products that are used by many customers to improve their processes. Here at Compart, everybody has a chance to share opinions and ideas. Ideas are discussed and improved during team meetings. Product owners help to make them more mature. At the very end, it feels so good, when your ideas become part of products. Besides, it is also possible to share ideas not just on a project level, but also on the company level via a dedicated platform.

What kind of support do you get to develop yourself professionally and personally?

Compart is a great place to learn and contribute at the same time. It provides numerous training programs:  internal as well as external ones, organized by the Compart Academy. Trainings focus both on hard and soft skills. In addition, it is possible to attend conferences and meetups outside Compart, to broaden your knowledge and experience. Compart offers language courses to all employees in German an English. I started my German course in January 2018 with Level A1. That helped a lot. We had a great teacher. Now, two years later, I passed the B1 language test and am now part of the B2 language group.

"Compart has given me great support during the first months in Germany. I cannot imagine how I could have done it alone."

How do you experience the team culture at Compart?

Team culture here is at a very high level. It is something that Compart does the best. It is based on trust, freedom, respect and mutual support within the team. This is something very hard to achieve and I am very happy to have it at Compart. In my opinion, team culture is one of the keys to efficiency and success. The teams have the right size at Compart, not too small, not too big. The team is given a lot of freedom. The tasks are distributed among us fairly. My team is an international one. People from Hungary, Romania, Syria, Germany. Sometimes the approaches are quite different, sometimes it is challenging.

"It feels so good, when your ideas become part of products."
