Encoding

Encoding (also: character encoding) is a method to define which encoding scheme must be used to represent a set of characters, e.g. text in a web site. There are different ways to define the encoding in a text format. In HTML, the following entry in the head element is used: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> UTF-8 has become the most common encoding scheme, because it represents all characters in Unicode and and therefore does not require specific encodings for different regions and languages anymore.
