COLD

COLD stands for Computer Output to Laser Disk and designates systems for managing and archiving of mass data, like outgoing mail, print lists, database tables. COLD systems receive the data (e.g. by data medium or file transfer), extract index data and save the information. Overlays and background layouts ensure that the data can be displayed in its original format. The term COLD dates back to earlier times when data was frequently archived on optical laser discs.
