Compart at the DMS EXPO 2011: Focus on White Paper Production and Central Processing of Decentrally Created Documents

For Compart, the DMS Expo is and will continue to be a must. The supplier of scalable and platform-independent output management (OM) solutions will also be a presence in 2011 at the leading trade show for document management (Hall 7, Stand C71).

Compart partners Océ and Cartago Software will also join them. DocBridge FileCab, the "youngest child" of the DocBridge series, will take center stage at the fair, being held from September 20–22, 2011 in Stuttgart. The software is a new input channel for DocBridge Pilot. The database-supported and platform-independent software supports customized mailings into every type of output. Data streams can be sorted and grouped, delivery optimized for the carrier and inserts added dynamically. DocBridge FileCab enables companies to save office documents in the same mailing pool and continue processing them centrally.

The principle: After creating the document on the PC workstation, the processorresponsible person transfers it to DocBridge FileCab using a printer driver interface. The software checks it against defined specifications, e.g. whether the expected fonts comply with the corporate design. Addresses are also verified and corrected automatically. If all the criteria are met, the document continues on to company-wide electronic mail processing or archiving. In the process, DocBridge FileCab converts the document to an application-independent format and passes it to DocBridge Pilot, where the documents are optimized, sorted and output through the various channels as usual. If necessary, office documents can also be combined with those of other business applications. Decentrally created documents are thus centrally processed.

Océ and Cartago Software at the Compart Stand

Partner solutions are intelligent additions to DocBridge Pilot. The Océ COSMOS workflow management system, for example, automatically controls the different applications and processes within the overall process of document creation, processing and output, like DocBridge Pilot. As soon as documents are ready for processing and output via the various channels, they are handed off to DocBridge Pilot. Océ COSMOS takes control over this process.

Cartago Software, on the other hand, specializes in the creation and design of complex business documents. At the core of Cartago's portfolio is the style sheet designer for XML documents based on the open standards XSL, XHTML and XSL:FO. Cartago is among the leading suppliers of this type in the SAP environment. With the certified Cartago Live SAP Connector product, the company has a high-performance tool for transferring interactive, on-demand and batch documents directly from an SAP system to the browser (without installing a plug-in). At the touch of a button, documents are output in PDF, PDF/A, PostScript/PCL or AFP via e.g. DocBridge Pilot. Visitors to the Compart stand will be able to see for themselves the interaction between document creation and output through different channels, automatically driven by a workflow management system.

White paper production sustainably reduces process costs

Another key topic: white paper production, in which documents are created and output using completely white paper. All the data needed is stored in the IT system and is delivered specific to the customer, starting with customer master data such as name, address, and date of birth, advertisements that need positioning, even fonts and logos. Gone are the endless stacks of preprinted forms – in many companies an expensive affair, with capital tied up in warehouse space and resources needed to keep the shelves full and transport documents to the printing/finishing lines. Instead, technologies are deployed that bundle the content and layout data of a document and print it on blank paper.

Compart helps firms prepare and optimize their data streams. DocBridge Pilot software has a pivotal role here, as it extracts all the necessary processing criteria as metadata and stores it in a relational database. Compart is already in discussions with scores of firms about this very product, including major German and international insurance companies.
