With DocBridge Mill, documents, data streams and spools (print outputs) in a wide variety of formats can be converted in many flexible ways. The data streams and documents to be processed can be modified, separated, distributed, classified, indexed and converted into all popular formats using profile and script management. Documents can therefore be displayed, printed, archived or used and processed in any other way and almost anywhere.

DocBridge Mill consists of individual modules which can be combined in many different ways. Due to this wide range of configuration options, applications which have already been implemented can be easily and efficiently expanded with additional functions, such as input or output formats with extra support. All modules are written in a code independent of the operating system and therefore function in the same way on all supported platforms.

The Main Benefits
  • Automatic separation, division, collection or filtering of incoming stacks and documents
  • Automatic classification and indexing
  • Additional functions when processing the page structure, such as automatic turning of pages which are the wrong way up
  • Support for many input formats and conversion into a variety of output formats
  • Support for a wide range of stack types, including many input formats for the most diverse of document management systems
  • Extensive AFP resource support
  • Comprehensive management options due to a highly configurable profile
  • Processing of document stacks and data streams
The DocBridge Mill Concept

All core functions are included in a base module. All incoming document objects and their characteristics are converted into an independent interim format by a format-independent input filter. As a result, all required processing functions are configured in a format-neutral way, are applied and can be converted into the required target formats using format-independent output filters.

Application profiles enable the processing of all objects to be controlled.

Due to the very flexible scripting function, which is designed as a JavaScript expansion, complex output management processes can also be depicted in a simple and flexible way. The applicable variables can be given values from the most varied of sources. The profiles can be generated and edited with the graphic interface in DocBridge Workbench, another product in the DocBridge family. The resulting profile configurations can be used on all supported platforms in the same way.

Additional Functions

Restructuring the output materials

The structure of the incoming documents and stacks can be processed by DocBridge Mill in the following way:

  • Separation of data streams into individual documents
  • Categorization/collection of documents according to established criteria (e.g. according to post code areas)
  • Sorting or collecting documents or several stacks into one stack
  • Filtering out documents or pages according to established criteria (e.g. from forms of payment)

Changing page contents

In DocBridge Mill, a series of parameters can be configured to change the structure or content of a page, for instance:

  • Addition of text, PMR markings, barcodes, overlays and images
  • Changes to page size and movement of page content
  • Hiding text or areas of pages
  • Recognizing the main reader direction and turning pages which are the wrong way up

Classification and indexing

The individual documents identified by DocBridge Mill after the separation can be classified and indentified. The criteria for the allocation of these document attributes and the separation can be established using JavaScript within the management profiles. The print-outs allocated in each class of profiles in particular allow the following variables to be assessed:

  • Existing attributes in the data stream, such as NOPs or TLEs in the case of AFP
  • General attributes such as page numbers (e.g. page groups in AFP) or overlay names
  • Texts which can be accessed in a defined area
  • Terms which match definable search criteria
  • Barcodes as image documents displayed in a grid, which can be imported with barcode recognition

The data gathered in this way can be sorted into separate files according to the definitions in the management profile.

Resource management

DocBridge Mill resource management enables simple integration into an existing infrastructure. The following font types, for example, can be integrated:

  • TrueType fonts
  • Postscript Type 1 fonts
  • Postscript Type 3 fonts
  • AFP screen fonts
  • AFP vector fonts

Many of the font resources provided can be produced "on the fly” when generating the outgoing documents and therefore simplify the configuration of such applications. In the case of AFP incoming documents, the following resource variants are supported:

  • Inline resources (self-contained)
  • External resources (files)
  • External resource library

These resources can also be created using an http protocol on a resource server network. All of DocBridge Mill’s core functions are fully implemented in Unicode. All character sets and codes, such as Double Byte Character Sets (DBCS), are therefore also supported. The following color ranges can be used or implemented in DocBridge Mill:

  • RGB
  • CMYK
  • CieLab
